How to help

The Bow Valley Helicopter Noise Alliance (BVHNA) is a Canmore-based volunteer group. BVHNA is not “anti-helicopter”. Our objective is to ensure that the Canmore Municipal Heliport is properly sized and located, and that helicopter tourism does not disturb people and wildlife.

1 Get updates

If you too are concerned about helicopter noise, please email bowvalleyhna@gmail.com to be added to our mailing list. Don’t worry, we won’t spam you; we will only email you the occasional update regarding the issue at hand (ie., helicopter noise in the Bow Valley).

2 What else can I do?

Write Canmore’s decision makers

Writing a personal letter to Canmore’s Mayor and Council is the single most effective thing you can do. Ultimately, Council will make the decision regarding the future of Canmore’s heliport. Your letter lets these key decision makers know that helicopter noise is an issue worthy of their attention. The email addresses (and phone numbers) of Canmore’s Mayor and Councillors can be found here. Once on the page, click “Read more”.

For maximum effect, email the same letter to the local newspapers (see below).

Write the local newspapers

A letter to the local newspapers keeps the issue alive and fresh, and it also becomes part of the historical record regarding the issue.

Here are some example letters to the Rocky Mountain Outlook.

2018 - Time for serious helicopter debate
2018 - Helicopters have no place in parks
2017 - Disturbed by helicopter noise
2017 - Too much helo noise
2011 - Too much helicopter noise
2011 - Upset by helicopter noise
2011 - Helo noise disturbing
